[Chapter 70 Epigraph]
“Let us remember well, however, the secret references to a period of 120 years that brother A., the successor of D and last of the second line of succession - who lived among many of us - addressed to us, we of the third line of succession“
- Fama Fraternitatis
We been over this. Feels like it’s talking about the grand master succession.
[Chapter 70]
Casaubon reads the Fama and the Confessio and the Chemical Wedding, because he’s researching Rosiucian manifestos.
The first two appear in 1614/1615, which is 30 years after the 1584 meeting between the French and English Templars.
If he reads them literally, then they are absurd and contradictory.
So they had to be a coded message, and that there had to be a coded grid that solves the text. But since he has no grid he has to read with mistrust.
They talk about the Plan of Provins. That a treasure that was not money was hidden in the grave of C.R. It promised historical change.
C.R. had gone to Spain/Portugal to teach people where tofind the treasure, but it didn’t work because the Germans in the 17th century made themselves public.
The Manifestos are trying to reconstruct the Plan phases.
Andreae mentions 3 majestic temples, which must be the three known temples.
C.R. wanted to reach Jerusalem, but wasn’t able to. Some party had wanted to upset The Plan, and apparently succeeded.
There’s a bunch of shit Casaubon can’t seem to find an explanation for, and surmises that the manifestos were written because information had been lost. That’s why the books end with asking for people to come forward if they have any information. It’s the same thing that Ardenti wanted to accomplish by publishing his writings.
He’s wondering why the Germans wanted to come out publicly, when all they had to do was wait another 90 years until their turn.
SO
The only explanation - The PREVIOUS appointment hadn’t happened. The Germans were complaining because the English failed to meet the French. Then some gaps make sense to him. That the tomb of CR has signatures of the brothers of the first two circles, but not the third. No French.
So how could the English miss the French if the English were the only ones to know where the French were.
The Rosicrucians come out, ready to accept the risks, because that was the only way to save the Plan.
DAMN I’m starting to really get into this book.
